COMPETITION PROGRAM

Features 17 films from various countries — showcasing the finest selection of science related and educational works from filmmakers around the world: USA, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, Norway, Russia and others. The screenings will take place in the special retro and chic atmosphere of the Rodina Cinema Center, one of the oldest cinema theatres in St. Petersburg.

Lecture by Mikhail Kurushkin (ITMO) “St. Petersburg at the center of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements: from Mendeleev to Hovhanneson”

Lecture by Yevgeny Kalinin (St. Petersburg State University) “New Elements in the Periodic System” including the chemical experiment “Discovery of New Radioactive Elements”

Lecture by Igor Dmitriev (St. Petersburg State University) “Dmitri Menedeleev: the path to the law”

The interactive periodic table is available for every visitor during the day.

VR SATURDAY

The day of non-stop screening of diverse popular science films in virtual reality format in the open technology laboratory YotaLab. The program will be complemented with lectures on the history of VR technologies and VR filming as well as presentations of ITMO University VR developments.

SCIENCE “KVARTIRNIK”

The science “kvartirnik” will bring together representatives from different spheres for informal conversation about Artificial Intelligence. It will take place in bohemian “Ziferburg” space.
Among the speakers — Ivan Semenov, “Nauka” channel’s science editor; Alexey Andreev, Future Time Award 2018 laureate, journalist, futurologist, author of the blog “That Still Shelley” and novels “2048”, “Web”; Grigory Tarasevich, “Schroedinger’s Cat” magazine’s editor-in-chief; Dmitry Bulatov, artist, art theorist, Art & Science ideologist.

GEEK QUIZ

Intellectual game in the  “What? Where? When?“ format featuring the main festival theme “Artificial Intelligence”. Three rounds of carefully selected questions will challenge the knowledge and logical thinking of the participants. A wonderful opportunity not only to have a good time, but also to test your intelligence. The quiz will be held in “Diskette lounge bar” — the unique lounge bar in the center of St. Petersburg built around the concept of “immersion” into the 80s.

SCIENCE-ART

Lecture by Dmitry Bulatov “ART AND SCIENCE: ART ON THE EDGE OF SCIENCE”

Art&Science is a kind of contemporary art, which’s followers use the latest technologies of the 21st century, research methods and conceptual basements for creation of their artworks.

Dmitry Bulatov — artist, art theorist, curator, twice State Innovation Prize laureate in the field of contemporary art, Golden Nika festival Prix Ars Electronica nominee (Austria).

LECTURES

Diverse program of lectures from scientists of leading Russian universities: ITMO University and the Alumni Association of Saint Petersburg University.

EXHIBITION

The lobby of the Rodina Cinema Center, the main spot of the festival, will be decorated by the exhibits dedicated to the soviet Sci-Fi movies from the museum fonds of the legendary Centrnauchfilm and Lennauchfilm Studios.

KIDS ZONE

The children’s section will offer educational series screenings “I want to know everything” about Dmitri Mendeleev, the wonders of chemistry and the possibilities of the chemical industry accompanied by lectures and master classes from Kids University. The Ministry of Defense will present young engineers’ developments in the field of robotics and prepare entertaining programming workshop with Lego for everyone.
